Jochen Marseille wingman at I.(J)/LG 2 Aug 1940
Realise Reiner Pottgen was Marseille's wingman in North Africa, could anyone tell me who it was in August 1940.

He was such a junior pilot at that time it is more likely that he was the Rottenflieger. Unless you were a senior pilot or ace, it is unlikely that he would have had the same Rottenführer/flieger for a whole month. Possible he flew alongside his St Kap Oblt Adolf Buhl but I have no evidence to prove or disprove this

Cheers Chris,
Apparently he was with his wingman when he received a letter from Maria Vassiltchikov on 24 August 1940. Whom he had met the prevous summer. According to papers in Berlin State Archive. Andy |

With his wingman where? He had only been with his unit 2 weeks by that time so was still very much a new boy with no victories. Who was this Maria?

To add that during his time at the LG2, he broke as many planes than he will hv victories later in Afrika....nearly as many

Maria Vassiltschikov was Heinrich zu Sayn-Wittgenstein's girlfriend, but I don't think Marseille was Wittgenstein's wingman. I might look it up (I have both pilots' biographies), but it seems unlikely.
