To Defeat the Few by Douglas Dildy and Paul Crickmore??

To Defeat the Few by Douglas Dildy and Paul Crickmore??

Has anyone got/read this new book? I can't find mention of it on the forum.

It seems to be a whopping 384-pages, based on the Luftwaffe view of the BoB.

The reader reviews seem to either say it is outdated based on 1960s literature, or it's refreshing new perspectives.

If I were you I would actually go along with Neil's (Falke Eins) assessment.

He is usually standing with his feet pretty solid on the ground.
Reading the other reviews, the feeling I get is they have no idea what the German intentions were, and are very impressed with getting what they call "the German viewpoint".

I also confess that I lifted an eybrow or two when I saw the authors name.
Don't believe Paul Crickmore has ever ventured outside the A-12/SR-71 familly aircraft before?
Know nothing about Doug Dildy though...

Interestingly enough I decided to check my own bookshelves to see what I already have regarding the Battle, and found I actually have no dedicated German book about it. Only non-British author is actually Christer Bergström.... :)

Anyway this book is nothing for me
Cheers
Stig

I will not add comment but let others come to their own conclusions. I have pointed out to Doug and Paul some of the photo errors (SKG 210 not Er.Pr.Gr 210; photos of aircraft with tail bands thus not 1940; garish colourised photos etc etc) but have declined to read and correct the text (not enough hours....)

Thanks Stig. FWIW my slightly more extensive 'review' is here

..There are good bits and equally surprisingly bits we've all read countless times before. 400 pages - do you need two of those on Hitler's life and political career? Should have been edited down to more manageable size - you get the impression they wanted to put absolutely everything they could think of in it. Not keen on 'modern' terminology - Bf 109 as 'battlefield interdictor' ? I guess..

..and Fw 200 as a maritime strike aircraft. I pointed this out as armed maritime recce was much more accurate
