Home movie footage shot in the Winter of 1939/40 of a Dornier 17M/P? possibly from I/KG51 shortly before conversion to the Ju88A-1. Sure you'll all know more : )

Also featured is a Henschel Hs126

Not having looked at it, KG 51 had converted to He 111 by then but many of their Do 17s ended up with training units still with the Edelweiss badge on the nose

It is a P, the M had a different engine identifiable by two round intakes at the top 11 and 1 position.

Perhaps shot in Breslau or Wiener Neustadt; sometime between Dec 1939-March 1940. The huge swastika on the fin/rudder is something I have not seen before and the unit emblem of triple red flowers was new to me also.

The underwing crosses looked pretty big to me as well. A screen capture of the emblem (with a bit of colour correction) is attached. In the Rolfe/Ketley Luftwaffe Emblems book, it's given as I./KG 255 and I./KG 51.

Several former KG 51 Do 17 were operated from late 1939 until June 1940 by some (H)-Staffeln together with the Hs 126. That's one of these.

The large roundels are right for the period - you can find photographs of aircraft with the smaller ones added but still retaining the large ones.

Why should KG51 have Ps? A shortage of bombers?
