Do 18 K6+FL Kflg 406
Hello all,
would anyone perhaps be able to assist my friend Patrick J Cummins. He is trying if possible to determine the crew of Dorneir Do-18 K6+FL of Kustenfliegergruppe 406 which was lost in an accident some where of the South East coast of Ireland on September 15th 1940. The crew were rescued by aircraft that were flying with it. if anyone had any clues. he has been in touch with various groups in Germany over the years. Dennis Burke |
Re: Do 18 K6+FL Kflg 406
The Staffel 3./406 was on 15.12.40 located at Schellingwoude seaplane station near Amsterdam and subordinated to the Seenotgruppe Schellingwoude. It was also reporting to Luftflotte 2 and IX. Fliegerkorps.
The best way of finding the information you are looking for, will be to consult the Kriegstagebücher of the Küstenfliegerstaffeln found in the RM 118 records of the Bundesarchiv-Militärarchiv in Freiburg. Being as early as December 1940, there should be a good chance to find the the KTB for 3./406 for this month. There are normally two KTB's for each month, one for the period 1. - 15. and the second from the 16. and to the end of the month. Good luck !! |
Re: Do 18 K6+FL Kflg 406
Hello Seaplanes!
Thanks for that. Can you advise, do the Bundesarchiv-Militärarchiv reply to letters in thsi kind of case or would it require an onsite visit? I think he had a contact in the BA some years ago but I will see what can be done. I will check again the data he sent me. many thanks Dennis |
Re: Do 18 K6+FL Kflg 406
The best would probably be to send an e-mail (use BA/MA web site) and ask for the Findbuch reference in RM 118 for Küstenfliegerstaffel 3./406 for December 1940. If available, you can then order a copy.
