9 July 1944 3./KG30 near Le Culot airfield

Hi,

In the index cards ‘ Deutschland, im Kampf gefallene Soldaten, 1939-1948 ‘ (source Deutsches Bundesarchiv) which are available on Fold3, one can find 3 cards for members of 3./KG30 which died on 9 July1944 near Le Culot : Alfred Horn, Hermann Krebs and Heinz Korn. They are buried at the Volksbund cemetery at Lommel, Belgium. It is possible that Günther Lohmann and Kurt Fert were of the same unit (and died on the same date), but no cards for them were found.

Is any additional information available ?

Many thanks in advance and stay safe

Luc

Of interest, for the second crash, the date has been changed to 8 July 1944 and 60% inserted so it would indicate one occurred on or after take off, the other on landing/return. Target for both was Seine Bay. There was another loss at Dowwel 20 km south of Eindhoven of S-3, 330420, 4D+HH

Chris,

Many thanks for the additional information. No location found with the name " Dowwel". Is it not Lommel which is approx 20 km south of Eindhoven ?

Best regards and stay safe

Hi

20km SSO Eindhoven was a town namend "Dommel" (Belgium).
"m" and "w" are very similar in the Sütterlin script and can be mixed up.

best wishes

'Dommel' is a river which springs in Limburg (Belgium) and ends in Noord-Brabant (the Netherlands).

The Dommelsch beer brewery is located on the Dommel.
