sec. line:

third line:

This photo is not dated.
But I have another photo of the whole Staffel, which will be from the same period and it is written on March 27, 1945.
Interestingly, the place is listed again Stavanger-Sola! But 1. (F) / 120 was at this airport only until August 1944-or am I wrong ???

Yes, I have also noted this "problem" but found an explanation;


Michael Holms site say for 1.(F)/120;


Stavanger-Sola, 7.40 - 8.44
Eggemoen, 8.44 - 12.44
Lister, 12.44 - 3.45
Quakenbrück, 3.45 - 5.45



I have an interest in JU188 D-2 Wk Nr 230443 A6+FH that came down in Little Loch Broom in Scotland 29.12.44. It is stated that they came from Stavanger-Sola as well even though the date indicates their home base to be Eggemoen/Lister in December.


I found the answer in the interogation report from the survivor;


"1 On the 26th December the crew of this aircraft took of from their base at Eggemoen, 27 miles NW of Oslo, and flew to Lista (Lister?) where they were to start a reconnaisance flight flight over Scapa Flow as soon as favourable weather conditions permitted.

2. On the following day the crew were given orders to proceed to Stavanger-Sola and to begin their operational flight from there. At about noon 28 December, the day following their arrival to Stavanger-Sola, the crew were informed that the weather forcast was propiticus and at 1300 hours the crew was given a hurried briefing"


That show that despite their main base is given to something else they still used Stavanger-Sola for operations.


Hope that this gives a bit of an explanation.

A few notes for the period under discussion:


Aufklärungsstaffe1 1.(F)/120
Code: (A6 + )


9.44: all or most of the Staffel transferred from Stavanger-Sola to Eggemoen near Oslo, and very few sorties were flown thereafter due to the critical fuel shortage.
25.12.44: Staffel based half at Eggemoen and half at Trondheim-Vaernes under Kommandierender General der deutschen Luftwaffe in Norwegen.
29.12.44: Ju l88 D-3 (A6+FH) crashed into a loch in NW Scotland during a mission and sank, 100%, 1 KIA, 2 MIA and 1 captured.
4.1.45: Ju 188 FTR from a recce mission over Scotland, 100%, crew MIA.
25.1.45: now at Lister under Fliegerführer 4 with 19(17) Ju 188s on strength.
7.2.45: Ju 88 D-1 (4N+FH) FTR - no details, 100%, Staffelführer Hptm. Heinrich Eiler + 3 MIA.
Although charged to 1.(F)/120, this appears to be an error and should have been charged to 1.(F)/22.
2.45: Staffel still at Lister with elements detached at Trondheim-Vaernes.
3.45: now at Stavanger-Sola and Trondheim-Vaernes.
8.5.45: Staffel surrendered, half at Stavanger-Sola (18 officers and 133 men) and half at Trondheim-Vaernes (11 officers and 129 men) with a mixed complement of Ju 88s and Ju l88s under Fliegerführer 4.
