Bill Whisner 352nd FG - flight leader?
What was Whisners position within the group during his second tour September 1944-May 1945? I assume he was leading a flight because he had a tour behind him but he did fly in LtCol Meyers (the deputy group commander) flight on 21 November 1944 and led "Blue" Flight on January 1, 1945. I believe that during his first tour he flew as wingman to George Preddy who was operations officer and then acting c.0. of the 487th FS.
On a more peripheral note did Whisner marry during his period at home in 1944? K |
Re: Bill Whisner 352nd FG - flight leader?
I should point out that Whisner had fallen foul of senior staff because of his problems with alcohol and that might have impaired his promotion prospects. He had shown tendencies before leaving the USA in 1943. According to John Meyer both George Preddy and Whisner were prone to episodes of excessive drunkenness.
In Korea in 1952 his lack of respect for authority was welcomed by Gabreski, K |
