KTB of Stab JG 77
27.05.44: Display for the Luftflotte. Macchi a good plane against fighters, FIAT G.55 a tired ship. Despite that, Macchis are running out and the G.55 will continue to be built!

I found the video interesting since my uncle tested a Reggianne.

I used to have a more than 25-year-old copy of Air International which had a brief story, buried in something else, which said that the Italians had invented a simple head up display and installed it in a few of their fighters. It went on to say that at the end of the war, one of these was brought back to Wright-Patterson for evaluation. The evaluation basically said, "What a silly idea, it will never amount to anything". I would sure like to find that issue again. I would even more like to see that evaluation report. Anyone?

I remember my question from years ago about more or less the same thing: comes down to that even though the G55 and Mc205 were great planes with great onboard firepower, they were to complex to build quickly/easily.

My late friend Ferdinando D’Amico told me that the complexity meant that even routine maintenance tasks were harder than they needed to be, that you couldn’t get to one minor component without first removing some major ones.
