RAF claims (Coastal Command) on 13 Oct 1942?

Good morning to all.

Am trying to find which pilot or unit attacked (it seems so) and claimed this day:

a) An Arado Ar 196 A-3, werk 0236 on the Baie de Poulnic (apparently taking off);
b) A Breguet Bizert, werk 37, code BD+KJ, some 400 km from Brest.

Thanks

A.

5./196 Ar 196 was lost in an accident (no claims anyway). The 1 Seenotstaffel Bizerte was shot down by Sgt Hammond of 248 Sqn SW Ushant at 1608 hrs

Just looking at the Oct 42 ORB for 248 Sqn and just to add to Chris’s reply: “Aircraft Q (Sgt Hammond pilot, WO McColl (?) Navigator) also have combat with enemy seaplane which was destroyed, no hits sustained by Q.”

To add more, it was Sgt R F Hammond and WO H McColl both of whom were shot down and killed by 8./JG 2 on 1 Dec 42 (5 claims and 5 lost by 235 and 248 Sqn that day)

Sad day indeed - looks like entire formation of 3 from 248 failed to return, so I guess the other 2 were from 235.

Leahy/Ross and Keeling/Crook from 235 Sqn. No survivors. 248 Sqn had taken off at 0806 hrs and 235 at 1315 hrs
