Interesting document, thanks Nick !

Just a remark: the document says the aircraft was probably going to drop supplies over Saint-Nazaire. The German pocket there had an airfield where German aircraft could land. I even read a book lately about the attack by French air forces of the Atlantic German pockets in April 1945, and French were taking measures in case German aircraft used this airfield to take part to the battle (something very unlikely at this stage of war IMHO). By the way, these attacks in late April 1945 were again IMHO a totally useless waste of lives.

The airfield they used there was Escoublac, still in use at least as late as mid-April 1945. More than one of the "Atlantic fortresses" had airfields but landings weren't always possible for various reasons, so supply drops were used instead.
