Letters are usually seen on Jabo machines operating on ground attack units. See what appears an AR-4 for four SC 50 bombs on fuselage.

Its not the letter but the style its not like anything i have seen.

Understood now, but I can assure I have seen a lot of "non official" letter styles on Luftwaffe planes.
