N.S.Gr. 10 Bu 131 loss
 

Can anyone help me with a mysterious loss I have in my notes (from Genst.Qu.6 returns).

2./N.S.Gr. 10 reported the loss off Bu 131 WNr 1936 on 5 Mar 1945 - typically when I've come across anomalies like this, they've been mis-reported.

Does anyone have any further info about this loss?

2./NSGr. 10 usually flew Ju 87s.

According to Michael Holm (Air Units > Ground attack units) the Nachtschlachtgruppe 10 used Bü 131, Fw 189, Hs 126, Ju 87. So there is no anomaly.

Thanks all, and thanks Leo - but (other than this one loss) I have only ever seen Ju 87s recorded as lost (or on strength) by them - I wonder if Holm’s assertion of them operating Bu 131 comes from this (misfiled?) loss

I guess a clearer question would be does anyone have any other information about Bu 131 WNr 1936, aside from the loss record?

According to Michael Holm, the 2. Staffel had only Ju 87s from September 1944 onwards and the original question was about a loss from that Staffel in March 1945.

This Bü 131 could also have been an hack machine used to carry people and spare parts. According to the Genst.Qu.6 loss list of 21 March 1945, entry 19, the flight was not operational (H) and the reason of the crash was engine trouble, without enemy action involved. The location of the loss is written as "Tartscha-Puszta" (or at least that is how I read it) and it don't know if it is a single location or if the aircraft was flying from "Tartscha" to "Puszta".

Überschlag inf. Motorstörung (turned over due to engine trouble). Heimatflug. Damage was reported as 60%. Source: GQM (#12-26, 21.3.45, 19).
Location is Flugplatz Tartscha-Puszta, which I have absolutely no idea as to where that might be.

On Google Books I found a geographical book from the year 1792 which gives Zeben, ungar. Szebeny, sklav. Sar binoro, eine kleine, fånigliche Freystadt am Fluß Tartscha.
So it might have been in the Szebeny area.

A possibility?

Bábolna (HUN) (a.k.a. Bábolnapuszta) (c. 47 38 N – 17 58 E)
General: field airstrip or landing ground in NW Hungary c. 26 km ESE of Győr (Raab). Exact location not determined. History: no details found. No complete Luftwaffe units are thought to have been based here.
Remarks:
16 Feb 45: aircraft from 1./NSGr. 5 were operating from here.
25 Feb 45: in use by aircraft from 2./NSGr. 10.

Your typical farm field temporarily used as a makeshift LG for single-engine aircraft.

Puszta is Hungarian for plains, or grassland, so Balbolnapuszta comes from blending Babolna and puszta together to form Balbolnapuszta (Babolna fields or similar), as opposed to a place called Puszta.

The location would be plain or grassland at Tartscha, which I believe is now Bad Tatzmannsdorf in Austria
