+++ RAF loss Spring 1944 +++
Hi all !
Some days before I spoke to an eyewitness (then 9 years old) who told me that in spring 1944 there was an a/c crash at the village of Metzels (Thueringen State, Germany). It's situated near to the cities of Schmalkalden and Meiningen. http://uk2.multimap.com/map/browse.c...=100000&icon=x There is a hill called Dolmar near to Metzels where flak was positioned and shot down that A/C. Some debris also fell on that hill. Supposedly it was a 4-engined a/c, crew all KIA, later reinterred at a different War Grave. The tail section including the wireless man came down at Metzels. Can anyone pinpoint me to that RAF loss (Sqn, serial)? Sorrily there is no exact date... (Maybe even it wasn't RAF but USAAF ???) bye, FrankieS |

Hello Frankie
I think you better to visit the cemeteries in the area for to know who was buried there and later exhumed, if there were some killed it must still have a trace in their registers. If you have a name you get the jackpot! Regards Phil |
