Luftwaffe's ww 2 secret missions
I read in this book by Dmitry Deglev that BV 142 V 1&2 and He 116 V 1 were used for clandestine missions what do you think of this info ?
Thank you very much Alain |
Re: Luftwaffe's ww 2 secret missions
Neither aircraft is listed in the Appendix to Thomas & Ketley's "KG 200, the Luftwaffe's Most Secret Unit" but that book came out in 2003 so it's always possible that Deglev has found new information.

Re: Luftwaffe's ww 2 secret missions
Hello Alain,
In 1935, Theodor Rowehl established what later would be called Kommando Rowehl. It used high flying aircraft in civilian markings to spy on Germany's neighbours. In 1939 it became officially part of the Luftwaffe known as theAufklarerstaffel Oberkommando der Luftwaffe and used prototypes of high flying aircraft for clandestine purposes. For instance, He 116 A W.Nr. 3058 was "D-ANYW" when it crashed at Vaerlose, Denmark in 1940. http://www.flensted.eu.com/g194078.shtml In 1941, Blohm & Voss BV 142 V2/U1 PC+BC W.Nr. 219 reputedly flew a few operations for 2./Aufkl. St. Ob.d.L. before being replaced by the pressurized Ju 86 P/R. best regards, Jim |
