242 Sqn.'s Hurricane's
Hi guys, Working out final drawings for a painting. I wish to show 242 Sqn. Hurricanes flown by Bader, McKnight, and Ball, circa Sept. 1940. I have markings for Baders V7467 but I do not have markings for other two. I don't need the serial #s because they will be shown at a distance. I need code letters and color of prop spinner and underside. (black portside underwing? Baders did not) Please remember circa Sept. 1940. thanks Bob

Re: 242 Sqn.'s Hurricane's
Hello Bob
Camouflage was pretty simple, Dark Green/Dark Earth upper side, bottom Sky, spinner black. Standard roundels Roundel Blue/Dull Red upper side, RB/White/DR bottom, Yellow/RB/W/DR fuselage sides. Fin flash DR/W/RB. On the leading edges, a fabric was applied to cover machine guns' openings, painted with red dope. Risky points are two camouflage patterns A & B, as well as bright marking colours as applied by Gloster. Good point is that pilots often changed their aircraft, so any code should fit, of course of respective flights. Cheers PS I have droped you a message on j-aircraft. Could you contact me off board? |
