Luftwaffe Tip and Run 'skip-bombing'?
I have seen numerous reports during the 1942-43 Tip and Run raids of Luftwaffe lone raiders 'skip-bombing' their bombs down UK streets etc.
Was this actually a bombing tactic (as the sensitive fuzes could get damaged) or was it just delayed action bombs or bombs not detonating on impact? |
Re: Luftwaffe Tip and Run 'skip-bombing'?
Attack heights were (very) low-level as you know so there was little opportunity of bombs to tip fully on their nose so such deliveries were the norm against buildings etc. Delayed fuzes meant that it minimized the risk of the explosion damaging the dropping aircraft
