Bf-109G “White 1” strikes caught on gun camera footage
I recently discussed some of the color gun camera footage used in the classic 1948 COLOR WWII flick “Fighter Squadron” which as stated previously has some great color footage of Air National Guard P-47s and P-51s (the Mustangs as Bf-109G stand ins):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Il1JH5ujIk&t=896s JG1 Fw-190A Red Nose firing cannon color camera footage? - Luftwaffe and Allied Air Forces Discussion Forum (12oclockhigh.net) Another gun camera shot of interest from this film can be seen around 14:51 where a Bf-109G crosses broadside at very close range to tracer fire. For one split second -on the frame where bullets strike the engine cowling just in front of the cockpit- you can faintly make out a white balkenkreuz and “White 1”. This becomes more evident when the contrast and brightness of the screen capture is enahanced. While not universally true, “1” often indicated the plane of a staffel commander. So it is quite possible this footage marks the demise of a staffel commander or even an experte. |

Hey Rob,
Do you have the technology to capture 14:51-52 frame by frame? I can't quite see what you are seeing. Bronc |
