English Airmen POW's
 

Hello to all!

15th September, Battle of Britain Day, but also the day we closed the manuscript of JG 2 Vol. 1. We start now with the lay out.

One of the hundreds of photos will be the one attached to this message. It shows Lt. Höhler with two English Airmen POW's.
Time area must be +/- October 1941.
Any idea who are these guys, and their fate?

I don't know but have looked at the Les Butler Lists and see that Hóhler had two claims on the 21st September 41, one at 16.24 the other at 17.43. Is it known who he shot down on these occassions ?

Again he had a hat-trick on the 8th November when he claimed three. one at 12.25, a second at 12.30 and the third at 12.38.Again is it known who he shot down.

I add that all the above are given as Spitfire claims.

Sgt. Parris 607 Sqdn
Sgt. Carter 616 Sqdn

For the 8th November there were -
P/O.Gutowski 302 Sqdn
S/Ldr.Szczeszniewki 315 Sqdn
S/Ldr. Wilczewski 316 Ssqdn
F/O. Weir 401 Sqdn (RCAF)
P/O Greenaway 501 Sqdn

Hóhler was lost in the Channel on 8th December 41 (see Mombeek's website)

have not looked at Coastal or Bomber Books.

thanks for the reaction.

Correct that the solution to this enigma must be found in Höhler's claims list (12 Spitfires).
I guess that this could match with the dates
2nd of October (1 Spitfire)
8th of November (3 Spitfires)

I still have the hope that someone will recognise one of those both pilots, maybe from a photo taken in England.

The airman on the left is obviously a flight seargeant.

12/8/41 - 1

18/9/41 - 1
20/9/41 - 1
21/9/41 - 2
2/10/41 - 1
8/11/41 - 3
All are noted as Spitfires.
Which ones are not counted ?

In Prien et al., "Die Jadgfliegerverbaende ..." lists Hoeler with 14 claims, only one on 18.08.41.

Anyone else experiencing problems with accessing the image? All I get is a small box with a little red 'X'.

Hello You all,

thanks a lot for your interest.
The figure I have here on Höhler's claims are 14 Spitfires.

I have another question: I recently found an interesting photo showing the Mustang HB-A Mk. I s/n AH565 from No. 239 (AC) Squadron lost on the 21st of July 1942 after being shot down by a JG 2 pilot (Hptm. Bolz). Any idea of the name of this pilot, and his fate?
