Photo Heinkel A7He1
 

Hello,


Currently on ebay is a photo of a number of diverse japanese aircraft including in the centre of the photo a Heinkel A7He1 at:

Given that the photo appears to have been take after the end of the war,is it known if the A7He1 served with any training units/engineering schools etc.. after withdrawl from frontline service?

Nice so see You back again!:)

I have extremely little about the Japanese use of their He 112 E (30 bought from Heinkel in 1937-38).
Basic thought is they were used in China, but given that vast subject such thinking is next to nothing.

BTW glad to see your absence has not slackened your keen searching eyes....

Apparently only the first 12 were delivered to Japan as the remaining 18 were refused due to late delivery ( the second batch of 12 off the production line went to JG132).

The 12 went to Universities and ground schools for instruction ---the Heinkel and plane behind ( a Type 93?) have the same tail characters . The A6M2 has "KAGA" designators.

That sounds a bit better Nick

However Luftwaffe use was very short lived and Dénes Bernád in his booklet
state they were all sent to Japan completing the contract.

Looking elsewhere, I also have details these former Luftwaffe aircraft were sent to Spain....

Sounds quite credible that only the first 12 actually reached Japan, since in the
end they were not very interested in the type and the IJN wanted to cancel the
whole deal.

Thanks Stig for the kind words and Nick well spotted on the G3M/L3Y having the same tail markings. I think what is really needed is a Japanese reader to decipher the script. In any event I have attempted to rejoin J-aircraft.com. Hopefully I receive a positive answer and perhaps someone there can assist.


It is interesting that at least one of th 12 A7He1 survived until the end of the war it would be interesting to know if others served with training units during the Pacific War. Fingers crossed more information appears.

Stig I'm sure only 12 reached Japan: most of the other 18--I think 17---went to Grupo 5-G-5 in Spain.
I googled Kanji and Katakana characters ( I think these are the latter) but couldn't make sense. I suspect the style varied with who was doing the painting. I have enough trouble reading English.
