Whilst I have 99 percent of Charles Rose's (565666) backstory unable to find which squadron he was serving with in May 1940 when he was awarded a DFM one suggestion was he was with 248 but cannot see reference in ORB's or the 248 Line book which I have myself.

Andy,

He was serving as a pilot with 254 Squadron. I found this several years ago when Ancestry.com who have an online copy of the Tavender DFM book gave free access to it during a US Memorial Day weekend. Someone who has a hardcopy of the same work might be able to supply you with the citation.
Without looking I don't know how much information you will be able to glean from the poorly kept 254 Squadron ORB.
