"Wally Tipsword, 8th Air Force, tail gunner extraordinaire!" This is how he loved to introduce himself, even after a lifetime of achievements outside of his brief WWII service. Sgt. Tipsword went home to be with the Lord, August 6, 2021, he was 97. Wally was a member of the Orvest Ellingson crew, 379th BG, 524 SQ, Kimbolton--"The Grand Slam Group". He was shot down on his 5th mission and became a guest of the Third Reich on September 8, 1944. He was a survivor of the Black March. Any outpouring of 8th A.F. love to his family would be greatly appreciated.
