Hello all,

Can anyone on here give me the correct format how to spell out these stab - gruppes? With dots etc where they need to be etc. I hope it makes sense and grateful for a experts help!

Kampfgeschwader 1, IV Gruppe

Stab./KG53 III Gruppe

Kampfgeschwader 26 / III Gruppe

II./Kampgeschwader 40

Kampfgeschwader 40/III Gruppe

Kampgeschwader 2

Kampfgeschwader 40 / IV Gruppe

OK, trying to remember what I did at school … There is a logic to this:

A) All German nouns start with an upper case letter: so Stab, Gruppe, Staffel, Geschwader etc.

B) The numbers of Gruppen and Staffeln have a dot after them because that's how German ordinals are written: 1. = 1st, II. = 2nd etc.

C) No dots after Geschwader numbers: think Jagdgeschwader 1, not 1st Jagdgeschwader.

and Arabic numerals are used for Staffeln numbers whereas Roman numerals are used for Gruppen numbers.
