Dec.25, 1944 and JG 52

I have found out, that this pilot was a member of JG 52, but I am searching the circumstances on his death in action on the above date, plane, codes etc.

The matter concerns Fw. Anton Gassner, who fell in combat over Kaschau in Hungary.
I found his name in the book "Holt Hartmann vom Himmel"

Thanks in advance
Christian

PS. Later I will tell all interested in another place in here why I so often asks for Your assistance concerning my death cards.

Hello Christian,

See Das Jagdgeschwader 52, Band IV, by Niko Fast page 130 -- 25.12.44 Bf 109G-4, # 512123, 6./JG 52, 8 km south of Kaschau, Fw Anton Gassner, w14, "Absturz durch Bodenberührung".

Best wishes
Rob

Kaschau is German name for Slovakian town Košice, during WW2 part of Hungary.

According to VDK´s site www.volksbund.de Anton Gassner is buried in Prešov, some 30 km north of Košice (block 3, row 5, grave 108). The same source states that he was born at Gaden-Pfaffenhofen on 6. 2. 1920. Also, according to JaPo´s Messerschmitt Bf 109s of JG 52 in Deutsch Brod, Gassner was member of 1./JG 52, not 6./JG 52 (JaPo´s info seems to be correct as he is not listed in the loss list of Barbas´history of II./JG 52). Last but not least, his aircraft was of course Bf 109G-14, not G-4.

Here is the so-called Death Card of Fw. Toni Gaßner.

He fell nearby Kassa (in German Kaschau, in Slovak Košice), back then part of Hungary, as it has been mentioned before. Therefore, that should be the official location.
