Do 217 K-1 of Major Horst Kingler - 11 Sept 1943
Good morning to all members.
Am looking for details of the crew and werknummer + codes of the Dornier Do 217 K-1 flown by Major Horst Klinger on the night of 11 September 1943. The machine (from Nachtaufkl.St. 3) was shot down or crashed 3 km NNE of Klopitsy/68 km SW of Leningrad. I can not find on the books I do have anything about the machine and crew. Thank you in advance, A. |

Re: Do 217 K-1 of Major Horst Kingler - 11 Sept 1943
I know this is a tricky question but was the Do 217 K prone to "engine fire in flight" like the He 177?
I understand it depended on the kind of maintenance held at Staffeln or Gruppe (or even Base) level...and that the He 177's problem was mainly a project fault. There are many probabilities for such a crash at night...without enemy action. |
