23/09/1945 44-80185 L4J crash in Belgium
 

Hi !


On 23/09/1945 44-80185 Piper L4J Grasshopper of HQ 98 Bombers Wing crashed in an orchard during the dropping of a memorial wreath at Chateau De Beauffert (according to the Form 14) or Chateau de Millmont (according to the report made by the pilot, 1Lt.Clifford A.Stodghill O-680537), due to engine failure.

Did the plane crash at Chateau de Mielmont (https://www.mielmont.be/) at Onoz (Jemeppe-sur-Sambre) as I can’t find neither mentioned in the reports ?

This was at Château de Mielmont, according an article of 26 Sept 1945 in the Vers l'Avenir newspaper, with the compliments of BelgicaPress on kbr.be

Lt Clifford Stodghill was a wartime B-26 pilot.
