Curtis Hawk 75's in French service.

Hi,

How many C75's actually saw service in the FAF ?
What is the highest serial number known and what is the link with the underwing numbers/letters if any ?

I don't understand why this post was moved to the Luftwaffe/Axis board. Was France part of the Axis powers in 1939-40?

All Curtiss H-75A-1s, A-2s and most A-3s were put into service. As for the A-4s or H-751s the exact number is still a subject of controversy but no more than a dozen were used during the Campaign of France.

The "Matricules Militaires" alloted to the H-75As were:
- X-800 to X-899 for the A-1s (n° 1 to 100)
- U-001 to U-100 for the A-2s (n° 101 to 200)
Their use was discontinued on A-3s and A-4s for security purpose.
Hope this helps.

Chris

Hi CJE,

do you have a list with losses of CH-75 planes?
I have some data but I want to make a cross-check.

Robert

Yes I must have but not the time to gather all the data because many losses have not been officially recorded and have to be checked one by one.
Sorry.

I could send you may database. It could be a good starting point.

Chris: This post was moved to "Allied and Soviet" part of the Board, where it is now, from the Luftwaffe and Axis. It specifically asks about H-75s, not in Luftwaffe service, but "FAF", which I presumed was French Air Force.

My mistake, John.
Thanks.

Re: Curtis Hawk 75's in French service.

hello,
Yes, it was my mistake , I placed the thread on the wrong page.
And yes FAF = French Air force.

So as for How many C-75's I take it that from what CJE says the answer in short is "It is not known how many".

And as for "what the highest serial number known was" has not been taken up by the contributors as yet.

Or "what if any was the link between the serial number and the underwing number" has not been taken up either .

Thank you

Alex

Re the link between Matricule Militaire (underwing number) and serial number, see Chris's reply on the 26th.
