2./NAGr 8 locations early 1945
 

Does anybody have information on the exact locations where 2./NAGr 8 was stationed between 15.01.45 and 24.01.45?

On 24.1.45 they transferred to Sagan
On 4.2.45 they transferred to Fürstenwalde

What I need is the period from 15/1 to 24/1....

This is as exact as my notes allow:

September 1944 – January 1945: 2./NAGr. 8 at Bielce/50 km west of Warsaw under Stab/NAGr. 8 (1. Fliegerdivision) in support of AOK 2 and AOK 9 (2d and 9th Armies).
February 1945: 2./NAGr. 8 withdrew with Stab/NAGr. 8 to Fürstenwalde airfield/30 km west of Frankfurt/O. and remained there until the final Soviet offensive of the war began in mid-April against Berlin.

Problem: Bielce was in Soviet hands by c. 17 January.

Yes, this must be Bielice. But as you stated there is a gap between mid January and 24th of January. I will check when Bielice was destroyed by the Luftwaffe.

The transfer to Sagan on 24.1 and Fürstenwalde on 4.2 are confirmed by KTB Lfl. 6.

For Bielice look for Sochaczew, captured on 17 January 1945. I guess that there was an intermediary airfield used half way between Sagan and Bielice. A number to choose from.

FWIW:

Bielice (POL) (a.k.a. Sochaczew-Bielice) (52 11 N – 20 17 E or 52 12 N – 20 18 E)
General: landing ground in C Poland 50 km W of Warsaw and 4 km ESE of the village of Sochaczew.
History: used by the Luftwaffe in Jun-Jul 41 but apparently not again until Jul 44. Captured by Soviet forces on 17 January 1945.
Operational Units: KGr. z.b.V. 102 (Jun-Jul 41); III./KG 55 (Jul 44); I./KG 27 (Jul-Aug 44); Stab I. and 1./NJG 100 (Jul-Aug 44); 4.(F)/Aufkl.Gr. 11 (Jul-Dec 44); Stab, II./SG 10 (Aug-Sep 44); 2./NAGr. 8 (Aug 44-Jan 45); 1./NAGr. 4 (Aug 44 – Jan 45); Stab, III./1 (Sep 44 – Jan 45); 10.(Pz.)/SG 77 (Nov-Dec 44).
Station Commands: none identified.
Station Units (on various dates – not complete): Stab/1. Fliegerdivision (Topolowa, Sep 44 – Jan 45); Ln.-Frontreparaturbetrieb 4/VIII (May 44).

Bielice was cleared on 16.1.45. Bodenpersonal was already under attack of russian tanks while moving out. It is assumed that airfield could not be destroyed. So it is pretty clear that flying elements of 2./NAGr 8 must have flown out either on 15.1 or early on 16.1.45. So the question is....where did they go.....as Franek said, we have quite a few to choose from.....anyone?

Hopefully, John, one of the members here who has a Flugbuch for 2./NAGr. 8 will come along and see this.............Fürstenwalde was about 425 km due west of Bielice so the fall back was probably to an airfield more or less along that line of withdrawal.

We have a Bf 109 from the unit on Überführungsflug 24. januaray 45 crashing at Wollstein Plq. 63745.

Yep, that is on the flight to Sagan.....but where did he came from....??? And it could be even two transfers between 16.1.45 and 24.1.45. It was quite chaotic that time period.

There is some indication that they might be at Posen until 23.1.45 when that was vacated....but no 100% proof.....still searching....
