Fleet Air Arm / No.24 Naval Fighter Wing - April-May 1944
Hello/bonjour,
I'm looking for information/details regarding No.887 and 894 RNAS (both belonging to No.24 Naval Fighter Wing) and in particular their missions between mid-April 1944 and mid-May 1944 when these Squadrons were based at RAF Station Culmhead. During this short period two Supermarine Seafires were lost, LR862 (9 May, pilot wounded, PoW), LR837 (12 May, pilot killed). In my case, is there any ORBs of these Squadrons for this period (I don't know if these documents have this designation for the Fleet Air Arm), they would be sure useful to me. Best regards, Frederic |
Re: Fleet Air Arm / No.24 Naval Fighter Wing - April-May 1944
Hello/Bonjour,
I have done some research (a book by Roland Bohn - 1998) and so far below here are the dates when both Squadrons carried out missions. Sometimes in cooperation with Royal Air Force Squadrons. In lack of ORBs, do books about the Fleet Air Arm, the Seafire or others, give details, information regarding these missions and losses? Any assistance is welcome. Best regards, Frederic 26.4.1944 Sub-Lt John O. Briggs, 887 RNAS, bailed out.
