Re: Aircraft Panels - Authentication
The first panel was on auction recently. I DO NOT like it. Especially the forced "wear" that is in 3 or 4 spots.
It looks like someone took some sandpaper to it to make it look worn. Paint on reverse is the wrong color Backside resembles Ju88 or Ju87. Could be an original panel that has been re-painted...but I specifically did not bid on it, as I do not think it is original paint. 2nd one looks good. I do not recognize the back side, but 100% German and original. |
Re: Aircraft Panels - Authentication
Apologies for the delay in responding.
Many thanks for your feedback and for sure I had the same doubts about the Swaz panel as some of the wear looked strange and similar to that of known fake panels I have encountered. Like you have said, possibly a real panel but with either new paint and wear added post-war...? I did however purchase the panel with the Nachtjagdgeschwader insignia. I just had a contact I know who restores Luftwaffe aircraft confirm that it is from a Me110 and not a Ju88 heavy night fighter as I had initially thought. Thankyou for the other messages I had received with feedback also! Cheers. |
Re: Aircraft Panels - Authentication
I also like the second piece, too bad it's fragmentary.

Re: Aircraft Panels - Authentication
Yes, The Swastika panel is difficult. No scale. I think that is one that would need considerable study and examination to authenticate.
Yes, the crashed piece looks genuine IMO. Looks like Messerschmitt constructional details. Complexity of the piece helps, with lots of details. I would expect that the exact constructional reference is possible with this and, I would hope that there is some other provenance of the original aircraft? Cheers SM |
