ObdL and OKL
 

Does somebody know the exact date (if there was such a thing) when the change-over in title occured? Similarly, was the code-name 'Robinson' in reference to anything specific or just a name pulled out of the air?

Hi,
The Luftwaffe top organization was fairly complex. It basicically consisted of:
ObdL = Oberbefehlshaber der Luftwaffe, a person (Göring) callsign of special command train ASIEN.

Luftwaffe Chef d. Genst. a person with a small staff (OKL Fü Stab), callsign of GefStd ROBINSON. It's static GefStd changed location a number of times, but it could and did travel with Göring in a seperate train.

OKL = Oberkommando der Luftwaffe, the actual staff located for most of the war in Postdam, callsign of GefStd KURFÜRST.

Thanks for that, though with regards to Robinson, my original question, I think, was a bit ambiguous. I know what it refered to, what I wanted to know, was the name 'Robinson' used for a particular reason, or was it simply a name plucked out of thin air?

which explains the Wehrmacht convention for naming of staffs and GefStds.
The R in ROBINSON should thus be from the geographical location where the staff was first formed, but I have no idea about where that was, but presumably in the Berlin area. The R would the be the first letter in in suburb.
