Wing Commander Cosme Lockwood GOMM, DSO, DFC - A Tribute (biography) - 3 volumes - published

Dear all,

After more than 9 years of researches, travels (including to France and England), the full biography of the late Wing Commander Cosme Lockwood Gomm, DSO, DFC (RAFO 34123) was finally published in 3 volumes.

Volume 1: Do cover his Family roots and backgrounds, his infancy in Argentina and Swiss, his Brazilian Civil War in 1932, his joining the RAF in 1933, his times in Egypt (4 SFTS, 45 Squadron and late 14 Squadron); then his time as a Flight Instructor at 10 SFTS and with the RCAF, before passing through an OTU, training to fly Whitleys. 396 pages.

Volume 2: Do cover "his War", first on a full tour with 77 Squadron, then with 604 Squadron (4 victories) and flying A-20 Turbinlites. He then moves to 51 OTU as a Flight Instructor before joining the RAE Farnborough as a Test Pilot for a full year. He was the first C.O. of the 467 Squadron (RAAF). We do follow up his flights up to August 1943. 522 pages.

Volume 3: Do cover his last fight in deep and the Post-Morten (letters received by the Family, documents, newspapers) and all the tributes to this hero, both here and abroad (France in 2019). 194 pages.

Several of you were co-authors of this Tribute to a Brazilian Hero and probably the greatest military Brazilian pilot of all times.

The work was published in Portuguese language although his letters and other documents were transcribed in original English language.

Most humbly yours,
Adriano Silva Baumgartner, ASV 00.344

Thanks Steve!

When we do it with our heart and soul, guess that it become good in all senses.
It is not a commercial work, but for posterity. The whole Family contributed with documents and photos, letters, etc...We then covered all aspects of his amazing career.

If you do consider that, at the start or beginning of WW2, Cosme Lockwood Gomm did have more flying hours than "Percy" Pickard and the former CO of 78 Squadron (whose name by heart I forgot) we do have something to think about. By circa mid 1943, he had more flying hours than the famous Guy Gibson.

Gomm flew in more than 82 models by the time of his death...registering something around 2,800+ flying hours. We covered with images ALL models he flew in, including managing to find the exact serial number and photo of the planes he flew.

Really a Tribute to a forgotten hero down here...

I am grateful to SEVERAL members of this BOARD who have me through the years in achieving this milestone in my own life.

Yours,
Adriano

Theo,

Since 13-14 I have been inspired by some of you from this Board...it is a pleasure to see one's productions gaining life, after so many years, isn't it?...Your OPUS about the NJGD is surely one of the most fantastic series I have seen. I did not know it took 15 years to complete it...A magnificent piece of Aeronautical History indeed. You carved your name in History, with the Admiration of many of us. Keep going! My gratitude for your sincere thanks.

We covered his last flight in deep on the 3rd Volume...and thankfully the same German Historian who helped you did help me, back in 2013-14, so we do have the images of all the JG 2 airmen...Guess it was well done like yours, which I have seen, but not have yet (your Series is on the Wish List).

SEMPER FI

Adriano and Family
