He111 shot down by No 1 Squadron, 03/03/1940.
Good morning,
On the 3rd of march 1939, soon after 12H00, No 1 Squadron F/O M H Brown ( L1843 ) and Sgt F J Soper ( L1679 ) claimed an He111 shot down some distance south of Forbach ( AIR 50/1 p 18, p 188 ). The Heinkel force-landed in the no-man’ s land and Soper saw a crew member set fire to the bomber. Does anyone know about the identity of this Heinkel and the fate of the crew ? Thanks a lot. Bernard. |

Sorry guys - I've been away in Belgium enjoying the moules. Here are details of the He111 you asked about:
3.(F)/121Heinkel He111H. Both engines damaged in attacks by P/O Brown and Sgt Soper of No.1 Squadron during reconnaissance sortie south and west of Metz. Belly-landed south of Forbach 12.00 p.m. Obergefr A. Peter and Uffz G. Hedtke killed. Uffz F. Nagel wounded in left thigh, admitted to hospital in Salzbach. Aircraft a write-off. |
