43 squadron Hurricane with Czech insignia
Hi,
I am trying to identify Hurricanes with Czech insignia under cockpit serving with 43 squadron in late 1941. There were at least two different airplanes, likely belonging to F/Sgt J. "Joe" Pipa. There is a photo from September 1941 showing a group of pilots of 43 sqn with a Hurricane in background. Czech roundel can clearly be seen : https://www.worldwarphotos.info/gall...lots-sep-1941/ Another photo likely from the same series of Indian pilot Hukum Mehta shows the Czech insignia in greater detail https://www.bharat-rakshak.com/IAF/G...Mehta.jpg.html Joe Pipa was flying Hurricane Z3150 (FT - V) during September / October 1941 (H. C. Mehta was killed flying this aircraft on Nov 3, 1941) and this is likely the Hurricane depicted. Are there any other known photos of this aircraft as these shots were taken by Press visit with the squadron? The second Hurricane with Czech insignia had a Czech roundel under cockpit rotated into different position. Anything to identify the second plane? Kind regards. David Sumerauer |
Re: 43 squadron Hurricane with Czech insignia
David. This is Z3150 flown by S/L Dalton-Morgan in 1941, in Sept. based at Drem (Scotland).

Re: 43 squadron Hurricane with Czech insignia
Thanks Nick,
I am aware of this photography, unfortunately this shot does not confirm presence of Czech insignia under the cockpit on the left side of the airplane. Identity of Hurricane with Czech roundel is therefore not confirmed yet. Best. David |
