Lauenburg Bridge, 29 April 1945
The KTB of I./JG 26 speaks of escorting "14 Fw 190 A-8" from Lübeck-Blankensee to attack the British Army's bridging operations at Lauenburg on the Elbe on 29 April.
These so-called A-8 are identified by Donald Caldwell as "SG 151 Fw 190 F Panzerblitze". Aéro Journal No. 20 (Aug/Sept 2001) also attributes them to 12./SG 151, likewise Shores & Thomas in 2nd Tactical Air Force Vol. 3 but Alexander Steenbeck's Die Dunklen Jahre says III./KG 200 who were also at Blankensee at the time. Shores & Thomas mention seven losses from 12./SG 151 that day. This seems very late in the war for much to be documented but does anyone have the details (and their source)? |
