For the B-17s of 100 Group: "Confound and Destroy" by Martin Streetly.

Nick,

What's the difference with "The aircraft of 100 Group" (which I own) from 1983? Is "Confound and Destroy" more a unit history or is it an update and expansion of the former book?

Regards,

Marcel

Hello
Not so long ago there were series of articles in Air Enthusiasts on Coastal Command's B-17s, which mostly operated from Outer Hebrides and later on from Azores.

"The Aircraft..." grew out of a series of articles in a modelling magazine, I think. "C & D" (which came first) is an operational history of the RAF's bomber support campaign (including a chapter about American efforts) and with appendices on Allied and German radars/RCM devices, the Squadrons and airfields of 100 Group, and the Luftwaffe night fighter force. What it doesn't have is any personal accounts of bomber support ops.

The edition I have has a terrible standard of proof-reading by the way.

Re: RAF Fortress

Hi Cédric;

The B-17 / RAF Fortress´s was one of my favorite aircraft. When compiling through 251 Sq ORB at National Arcives, I found only partial information on codes and operations etc. Also an article by Andrew Thomas (if I remember correctly) in an old ´Aviation News´ magazine is full of errors. I have numerous photos of them here at Reykjavik Airfield, Iceland. However by combining other sources I have now found out all the codes, except two that remain with question mark ... but as these are still not complete regarding when all arrived here first, I am NOT going to list them out. Your website lists my country correctly in French, but English for Ísland is of course Iceland!

cheers
