Re: Me109 Shoot down 27 June 1941 by 266 Sqn Spitfire
Good morning all,
I am trying to find information on a Me109 that was shot down by RAF Spitfires on 27 June 1941. What I know. - 12 Spitfires took off from RAF West Mailing at 1615 hours on a Wing sweep with 65 and 19 Sqns, over Hardelot - St. Omer Gravelines. - A Spitfire was being attacked by a Me109 over St. Omer. - Sgt Lewis, dived his aircraft and attacked the pursing Me109, firing 650 rounds at the enemy aircraft. - The Me109 dived towards the ground, confirmed by other sqn pilots. Sorry, I don't know anymore, but any help would be great on the German aircraft. Thanks Danny |

27 June 1941 was a very busy day with the RAF claiming four Bf 109s destroyed, 3 probables and 6 damaged. One Bf 109 E-7 of 4./JG 26 was shot down near Calais (no time given) and another crash-landed back at base due to combat (no time given). Oblt Kurt Ebersberger of 4./JG 26 claimed a Spitfire near Marquise during this action but was not shot down

Chris,
You have pounced! Thanks mate, any idea who the pilot was of the Bf 109 E-7 of 4./JG 26 at all? Cheers Danny |

Gefr Otto Friedrich. He was killed at St Omer (or possibly Harlette but I cannot find this on the web). All I would say is Kosina of 19 Sqn also damaged a Bf 109 at St Omer same mission. Without a time for Friedrich's crash, it is an assumption only

Well, there is only Sweep and Circus 25 to choose for the loss. I would suggest to trawl through combat reports for both operations to see if any makes a good match.
