Help with information about Shooting Star serial number 48-5182, code FN-182

Good evening to all members.

I do need some help to ID the Squadron and fate of the P-80 Shooting Star serial number 48-5182, code FN-182 (checkertail on the top rudder [seems to be either black or blue] and fuselage band - seems to be black).

Have checked Joe Baugher's serial number page but got no joy....neither googleing the serial or code...

Any help most welcomed

Adriano

Adriano,

There was a P-80C "47-182" with the 127th PTG that crashed in Arizona on 9 Aug 1952.

Serial numbers of FY 48 appear not to run as high as 5182.

Regards,
Leendert

I think you may have misinterpreted the serial 485182.
This will have been 44-85182, for which Baugher says:
85182 (MSN 080-1205) 1946-48: USAF 3010th ABU. 1950: USAF 3595th PTG. Modified as RF-80A-15-LO. 67th TRG, 45th TRS; named ‘Sweet Bonnie / ELTA'
