Book "Bombers Over Sussex
For the attention of Andy Saunders (Member)
I have just been reading your book and was drawn to Picture No.88 on Page 65. We currently have the undercarriage leg on display here but the interpretation card that goes with it is vague as to the identity of the B17. My research has indicated that three or four B17's had to ditch in the Channel due to lack of fuel all of whom could be connected with the undercarriage leg ! I am told that the entire piece (including the skeletal wing section was offered to us in the 90's and it was duly brought back here. Unfortunately the skeletal section deteriorated rapidly and we were left with the leg. It would be rather nice if we could identify the aircraft, if only to ensure that our records are accurate. Can you assist ? Graham Holmes Trustee - Lashenden Air Warfare Museum, Headcorn, Kent |
