At the risk of appearing overly critical, the Amazon blurb states that author Cmdr. M. Stille (USN, ret.) has penned more than fifty (50) Osprey titles. A remarkable achievement, but it makes one wonder how much time he spent on research for each of those? How much primary documentation in Japanese did he have time to research? This is not one of Osprey's softcover 100 page Whiz-Bangs, but rather a 320 page hardback. Others here besides me who have written books are probably scratching their heads, too.

But according to the link, the script has been favourably reviewed by Jon Parshall, which is a very promising thing.

Second, many of Stille's books for Osprey have actually been 48-page ones in the New Vanguard series, which have quite a limited amount of text. And at least one hardcover book has been a compilation of those previously published in the NV series.

One of the best current military historians, Robert Forczyk, has also written more than 20 titles for Osprey. Keep scratching your heads, if that's your hobby.

I have the book, but haven't got around to reading it yet.

If it is anything like his other books ie
Pacific Carrier War,
The Imperial Japanese Navy In The Pacific War,
The United States Navy In World War II: From Pearl Harbor To Okinawa (all of which I have and read);
then it'll be a good read.

Mark Stille isn't John Lundstrom in either detail, analysis or research level, but then who is? Stille's books are highly informative and well worth reading IMHO.
