387th BG on 9th April 1945
Hello.
on this day a group of 40 B-26 Marauders attacked an ordnance depot in Amberg-Kummersbruck, during this mission they were attacked by 2 Me 262s. According to John Foreman's "Me 262 Combat diary" one Marauder was shot down and one was badly damaged, whereas Heinz Bär from III./EJG2 claimed two B-26 shot down. I know most of the details about the shot down Marauder ("Vulgar Vulture", 43-34334, MACR 14379). Does anybody on this board know some details about the plane, that was damaged? Did it make it back to the home base Clastres, France? Regards Robert |
Re: 387th BG on 9th April 1945
Dear Robert,
According to my information the damaged plane was 43-34190, piloted by S. B. Gregg. The exhausted crew made belly landing in Allied territory, but I do not know where. I think that their a/c was equipped with C-1 autopilot. Gregg received Silver Star for this mission. Any additions or corrections would be much appreciated. Horrido! |
Re: 387th BG on 9th April 1945
Dear Jan,
many thanks for this. So this would be a plane from 558th BS. According to the serials number list, it was lost on 9th April 1945 but has no MACR, so this would fit. Does anybody have some more information? Regards Robert |
