Re: Nadzab/Lae (04/03/44)

Ok thanks

With these elements, the "Kill" of Harris is unjustified :no Zeke present and lost, ditto no Oscar lost and damaged (Hiko Sentai 77 and 248 involved)

The TONYs are 2 from Hiko Sentai 68

Lt YAMAMOTO Kazue victim (?) of McDonough.

WO Hirahara Kinji victim(?) of Park and Lorick.

Michel

I guess you found Yamamoto and Hirahara in the "Casualty List of JAAF Fighter Pilots" in Japanese Army Air Force Fighter Units and Their Aces (I. Hata, Y. Izawa and C. Shores)?

It's helpful but not comprehensive. There are at least some junior pilots, lost on operations, who have been omitted.

Yes,among others, but not only...indeed,the book is interesting but very, very incomplete,a new UPTADED version would be welcome.

Ex:14/03/44
In the book:3 Oscars lost (33°Sentaix2,77°Sentaix1)

More recent research
5 Oscars lost (77°Sentai)
2 Oscars lost (33°Sentai)

Best Regards
Michel

Where does this information come from? 5th AF fighters are credited with seven victories on this date: 9th FS x2, 41st FS x5.

It would be interesting if there was an exact match of JAAF losses to US credits, given the overclaiming that took place in New Guinea (and other theatres).

Cheers,
Bruce

Re: Nadzab/Lae (04/03/44)

There are an exact match with the US claimings...wich is uncommon.

Extract concerning the losses of the 77° Sentai wich I archived for years:
14/03/44
Capt Kuwabara Yoshiro (MIA)
Cpl Nagasaka Sohoi (MIA)
Sgt Watanabe Takemasa (MIA)
Sgt Aoyagi Hiroshi (wounded force landed Wewak)
Cpl Yamagushi Hisashi(force landed in sea)

13/03/44:
Sgt Hashimoto Masaichi (MIA)..not present in the book

12/03/44:
Capt Matsuo Yoshihide (parachute)
Lt Fujii Keizo (parachute)
Sgt Fukushima Wakichi (force landed)
idem no presents in the same book.

Michel

Yes, as you say, it's not what is usually found. Thanks for the details!
