The above photo comes from a recent auction on eBay.com. It shows a German pilot atop Arado Ar 234 B-2 W.Nr. 140596 F1+HT at Stavanger-Sola, Norway in the summer of 1945. Is this Hauptmann Helmut Miersch who, while staging it to England, made an emergency landing at Eelde, Netherlands?

Unlikely, because he is wearing an Uffz. belt buckle?

Thank you, John. There were two pilots of that rank who successfully flew Ar 234s of KG 76 to Norway on 5 May 1945: Uffz. Ludwig Rieffel and Uffz. Harry Thimm.

Anything from Flieger to Oberfeldwebel is possible with that belt buckle....
