Mission 361FS 18 september 1944
Dear experts,
Where can i find, or maybe someone know what the P-47's of 361FS had "on board" of their planes, did they carry 2 bombs and one belly droptank, maybe one bomb and two droptanks? The mssion was to attack FLAK positions around Groesbeek. I wonder where i can find the ORB's of the AAF. What where they called and where can i find it? Thank you!! Best regards, Eduard |
Re: Mission 361FS 18 september 1944
It appears only the 359th Fighter Squadron carried bombs on this mission. Group records state the Group Ordnance section released twenty-four M47A1 (100 lb) white phosphorus bombs for the mission and the total rounds fired by all three squadrons came to 15,937. The 360th Fighter Squadron write-up mentions strafing only, the 361st records do not mention anything in much detail except attacking flak positions in general, but the 359th states that fourteen 100 lb white phosphorus bombs were dropped on various gun positions and ten more were jettisoned. That accounts for the twenty-four mentioned in the group records.
