Long Shot
Subject: FISCHER, Dr. (med.) Rolf
Last Rank: Stabsarzt (Maj.) or Oberstabsarzt (Obstlt.) Unit: possibly III./JG 27 in 1944 Would/could someone with access to the Fold 3 death cards see if they can find one on him? Supposedly, he was shot down in a Ju 52 either by a Spitfire or by Yugoslav Partisan AA-fire in the vicinity of Belgrade in October or November 1944. He may have been flying the Ju 52. Any information from the card would be much appreciated. L. deZ. |
Re: Long Shot
No luck, Larry: 17 Rolf Fischers on Fold3 but none with that date of death.

Re: Long Shot
Thanks for taking a look, Nick. Fischer's grandson is trying to flesh-out his grandfather's fate in the vicinity of Belgrade at that time. He listed all of the sources he's explored and Fold 3 is the only one he didn't list. The grandson is a well-known and respected university professor with past and present teaching positions in both Germany and the U.S.

Re: Long Shot
Adding a date of birth would help in a search. I assume the grandson knows that?

Re: Long Shot
I'll contact him, John, and see if I can get it from him. Thanks......

Re: Long Shot
John & Nick:
I contacted him last night and he got back right away with: "I am still searching for a date of birth. You may feel free to post the information that he was in Africa with JG 27 and got a Bulgarian order (L.deZ: decoration/award). I am not even sure of the date of his death as being shot down near Belgrade in November 1944, (L.deZ: since this seems) somewhat unlikely as Belgrade had been taken by the Russians and Yugoslav forces a month earlier."
