'Henschel Hs 129 In Detail' is now available
 

Recently, I (finally) received from the Editor a courtesy copy of my latest book 'Henschel Hs 129 In Detail'.

Apart of a few spelling errors that were not corrected, and several photos and information that were left out due to lack of printing space, I am generally pleased with the book.

P.S. Unfortunately, on several internet-based book stores (including Amazon's various sites), the author is mentioned as Martin Pegg. This major error was not corrected (yet), even after I drew the sellers' attention to the problem. :(

I had your book in my hands last week and nearly bought it ;), but it retails for over 30 Euros in my bookstore, so I left it there that time, but I surely will pick it up, after BC/RS3 is out and my budget still allows for some more reading stuff then :)
it looks really great and as I have not been able to hunt down an example of Martin Pegg´s original Classic book about the 129, yours could very well fill in this gap in my collection :)

it looks great and really deserves good sales figures, you have done a really great job on this one :)

Is it up on Amazon's main site? I am interested in getting this book, but I would prefer to not order it through Ian Allen because of the difference in currency and the shipping costs.

in fact, while visiting the Model Building exhibition in Vienna today, I found an example of your book for a reasonable price and did not hesitate to buy it this time :)
and of course it will be a worthy addition to my LW book collection-about the only thing I am missing are a few good colour profiles, but maybe Classic will do a LW colour series book about the Schlachtflieger one day-we will have to wait and see :)

Someone has asked me what new information contains this book compared to the other ones published about this aircraft type.

Here's what I've answered him:
"This book is focusing primarily on technical aspects, as well as production details and armament. It does not deal with the operational history at all.

Compared to the other books dedicated to this aircraft type, this one has many details based on various factory manuals, not published elsewhere. Also, it contains several new photos, including the only ones known showing an operational B-3, W.Nr. 162052 - incidentally, the very last Hs 129 manufactured and accepted by the Luftwaffe - captured by the Soviets in December 1944. New details regarding the Hs 129's main competitor to the Schlachtflugzeug title - the Fw 189 V1 series, that is - has been included as well. Finally, the detailed production table has been updated, too."

Congratulations and thanks for bringing out such a book... it should compliment the operational stuff that's already out there. I'm looking forward to picking up my copy soon.

Congratulations to you Dénes for your fine book! It reawakened my interest for this fascinating plane - perhaps you can recommend a good operational book to complete the Hs 129 picture?

One other thing - in a report by Fl.Obering. Schirrwagen in March 1943, concerning his detachment to JG 51 and SG 1 (to show the advantage of the MK 101 cannon in the Hs 129 B) in 1942/43, he complains about the armour. He says that whereas the cockpit is more than adequately armour plated, the engines are totally unprotected ("Dem völlig ungeschützten Triebwerk..."). Furthermore he says, 75% of all shot down a/c showed hits in the engines caused by infantry weapons...
In your book, page 25, there's an engine drawing (B-2 Standard) showing some armour plating, not much, still it doesn't look totally unprotected.

Care to comment on this?
