Can anyone help with the unit - aircraft that bombed and destroyed a number of Allied shipping on 9 Jan 1940. It was afternoon and the S.S GOWRIE was hit and sunk.

Danny,

According to Anlage 3 zum Lagebericht Nr 240 vom 3.5.40 KG 26 claimed a merchant ship NE Montrose/Stonehaven.

They also claimed Javington Court (damaged, Bell Rock), Upminster (Sunk, Gt Yarmouth), Oakgrove (Sunk, Gt Yarmouth) and North Wood (Damaged, Gt Yarmouth).

They were also active on 11th and 12th Jan with claims for various other named ships damaged or sunk.
