26 July 1944 Bf 109 of Hungarian Air Force

Dear friends,

please, who knows what the designation "GY.Sz.95402" means?

The designation is from a Hungarian Bf 109G-6 that made an emergency landing after an air battle over Budapest on 26 July 1944.
Could this be the serial/production number of a Hungarian made Bf 109?
Do you know details about this plane?

Thanks, Jan

GY. could relate to production of the Bf 109 at Györ in the Hungarian Rail, Coach and Machinery Factory.

For what its worth 95402 is a known Bf 109 G-6 built by Györ

Listed in Punka's book A Messzer.

Thank you for confirming my guess that this is the serial number of the Hungarian Bf 109.

I just thought local production didn't start until nr. 96000.

According to Vogt (2012), G-6a production at Györ started with 121 airframes in block 95 001 - 95 271, constructed between September 1943 and May 1944. I surmise that the GY. indicates Györ, Sz. may be an abbreviation for szám, and 95 402 is the actual Werknummer. However, this places it outside the blocks for Györ G-6a production given by Vogt (2012) as 95 001 - 95 271, 96 000 - ? and 760 001 - 760 399 (the same author also gives 760 001 - 760 600 as a Györ G-14 block).

Punka (1995) has the first block of G-6a production at Györ also ending with 95 271; however, he further lists 95 301 - 95 453 in a separate list, as additional airframes built for the MKHL, without specifying the plant. It seems reasonable to assume that these aircraft were also produced by Györ. Your machine falls into this block.
