MG Number Plane wanted

Hi All,
need your help.

I have a wrecked Browning MG from WWII, air war units.
After long searching I discovered the MG serial number, but it is not exactly
readable.
Perhaps somebody can apply a computer programme
to approach to the former plane and gunner.

I read this out: 9 6 3 6or5 7 3(8?)

The crash happened very probably somewhere in the middle of Austria.

Of course you can send me several proposals or MACRs, which might fit.
I am Fold 3 user but I cannot apply a computer search through all of the MG numbers. Can you ?
Many thx in advance

Re: MG Number Plane wanted

There are ways to restrict searches strictly to the MACRs. When I do that 963573 is not found as a gun serial number. Some bomb groups did not record gun serial numbers. Often the numbers they did record are hard to read and fold 3 used an algorithm to try and read the numbers, sometimes making mistakes. You can make it search for numbers such as 9635?? where the question marks can be filled in by any digits. I did note that numbers starting with 96 are somewhat rare while numbers starting with 98 are more common. Are you sure the second digit is a 6 and not an 8?

RSwank,
many thx for your reply. You are encourrageing to go on searching,
includung hope for help via TWOCH.
Short reply for the moment: I had to state that some MACRs did not have numbers for the MGs. As you said it.
I will re-read my MG number, actually there are only few with 96...
Actually I had a number years ago, 966587, Kremers Crew, from 15th Dec. 1944, which could be assigned to the crew above mentioned.

Just let me ty again to read the number. Alex asked me for the yer of crash,
NO KNOWLEGE.
I come back asap.

Re: MG Number Plane wanted

Many thx Alex !

Great success with small basis info.
As RS wank suggested, the 96... had changed over to 98....
Under new light circumstances i rather saw 8 than 6.
The crash is mentioned on 485th HP.
Why this gun survived is an open question,
nevertheless we had an interesting challenge.
I hope.

By the way,

Alex started to check the Austrian 1945 crashes,
I started with 1944 crashes.
Alex was the lucky one,
good luck for me too.

Hi all, In regard to the MACR 12471.
Can anyone explain or suggest what the Hand written remarks are on this page ?
MACR 12471 page 2

https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodsto...Column0013.jpg

From all that I could find so far are just three gravesites.
O-776956 - Arthur I DAEHN known as "Dusty"(Iowa).
T-127595 - Jack HUBBARD (New York).
31263470 - James L LAZARAKIS (Massachusetts).
All three rest at the Lorraine American Cemetery, St.Avold, France.

And
Five POW's
RING, RYAN, SHIELDS SNIEGOWSKI and YATES.

Nothing on -
HOPE, Edward D - S/Sgt - 17028895 and WARE, Robert G - 1 Lt - O-811475 ?

Thanks
Alex
