Fighter units in Stade

Hello,

I'm looking for all German fighter units
which were based at Stade 1944-45.

Any infomation could be helpful.

Thank you very much and with kind regards,
Sven.

Re: Fighter units in Stade

Hy Sven,

From 1943 it was the base for one or more gruppe(n) of NJG 3. Most of the time it was III./NJG 3. During july/august they shared te place with III./ZG 76. They were converting from 110 heavy fighter to the 109 and would become III.JG 76. For a short spell it was the home of I./JG 26 and their Fw.190D. They allready left Stade on the 12th.

Hope this helps.

Re: Fighter units in Stade

Hello Dirk,

thank you very much. I've also found the staff of JG 302 in
early 1944 with Bf 109 G. But I think, the unit I'm looking
for, could be III./JG 76. Are there photos of Bf 109 of JG 76
in this book? I don't have it. No other units possible, maybe
for some few days?

Thanks a lot and with kind regards,
Sven.

The cover up name for the AF is "Staatsmann"

Nov. '39 a few NF (unknown unit) arrived for the first time, just to stay a few weeks. (see below: 10.(Nacht) JG 26)

Apr. '40: Paratroopers and Mountain rangers were airlifted to Stade in preparation of attack of Denmark and Norway.

Re: Fighter units in Stade

Sorry Sven,

No picture about III./ZG 76 / JG 76. I found a copy in a nice big book store in Brussels, Belgium: Librairie 16é Escadron. The shop doesn't have a website. Greetings,

Dirk

Re: Fighter units in Stade

Hello Sven,

Yes, III./JG76 was in Stade from 24 July until 20 August 1944 where they did there conversion training to single-engine fighters from flying Bf110s as II./ZG1. They moved to Athis, France on 21 August 1944.

There is an excellent article on the history of III.JG/76, including photos, that was published in the May 1991 issue of a German magazine called "Jet & Prop". The article is entitled "Die Geschichte einer Zerstorergruppe und das Schicksal von Friedrich Muer".

Regards, Gary Koch
