Gefreiter Willi Wanderer of KG76
In RAF Biggin Hill – the Other Side of the Bump, author Peter Osborne reproduces an account by Gefreiter Willi Wanderer of the high-level attack on Biggin Hill on 18 August 1940 by Do 17s of KG76. Does anyong know what Staffel he flew with, and what his role was?

No mention in KG 76 losses, KG 76 Association, EP and DKiG book. Thought he might be a war reporter but nothing

Thanks Chris,
I see that you helped with photos for Osborne's book. I wonder where he got the Wanderer quote from? Peter |
Re: Gefreiter Willi Wanderer of KG76
According to Alfred Price’s “Battle of Britain, The Hardest Day”, Wanderer was a Gefreiter air-gunner with II./KG 1 who flew the high-altitude attack while III./KG 76 went in low.
Price quotes him twice in the book’s account of the Kenley raid. |
Re: Gefreiter Willi Wanderer of KG76
Thanks Nick,
I found the references in Mason, the question for me remains which is correct II/KG1 or KG76? On balance I am leaning towards Mason and II/KG1. Peter |
